Anime no Cosplay -- Sakura-chan!! *^_^*

Anime North 1999

This was originally written on June 21st, 1999, right after the con ended (well, right after the three hour drive home from Toronto). It was posted to alt.fan.sailor-moon (a USENET newsground and my second home), so some of the stuff is only relevant to people who post there. ::waves to afsmers::

Well, I'm now home from Anime North '99. Real life sucks. Con life is *much* better. ;_; I had a really really great time. We even had our own afsm (well, sort of) party, so now I don't feel so bad about not going to A-kon.

Stuff I bought (I had to make sure I had enough $$ left to eat...): Sailormoon artbook II (completes my collection, except for infinity), CardCaptor Sakura artbook, CardCaptor Sakura tankoubon 8, Kodomo no Omocha tankoubon 3 & 8 (now I'm only missing 9), Rurouni Kenshin Best Theme Collection, Shoujo Kakumei Utena OST 1, 2, & 5 (er, I think it's 5...the one with the music from the musical).

Hitoshi Doi was there! That was the coolest thing *ever*! He was so nice. ^_^ I went to the seiyuu panel he was on. I even asked him questions. Wee! ^_^ Doi-sama!

Greenbeans was there, too. That was equally exciting. ^_^ At first I was scared to talk to her (^^;;;;;;;;;;;;), but she was really nice, and I eventually talked with her quite a bit. I can't believe she came all the way from Oregon! Then she's going to Halifax and then down to Florida (^_^ ^=^ ^^;;;). Hm, Florida, eh? ^_~

I have to say that the best thing about the con was the people! Everyone was so *nice*. You could just start up a conversation with someone you had never met, and all of a sudden you were sharing theories about the end of Utena or something. It was great. I met a lot of people from afsm (some I had met before). If I attempt to name them all, I know I'll leave someone out. You know who you are. ^_-

There were a bunch of Sailormoon events (a fanfic panel, a special video (including commercials, musical clips, and the saban trailer), a panel discussing the enduring nature of Sailormoon, pasta tasting (didn't make it to that one...), and a Sailormoon triva contest). The triva contest had three levels (beginner, intermediate, and otaku). The otaku questions were *hard*. What drugs did Ami and Luna find in Kakeru's room? WTF? But apparently there weren't very many otaku entries, so I ended up winning. ^^ For a prize I got a bunch of stickers, stationary, chocolate candy things, gum (I'm afaid of the gum...), rub-on tatoos, key chains, Sailorvenus socks, some other stuff I'm forgetting, a *really* nice official Takeuchi poster of the Starlights (I'm getting it framed), and artbook V. I already have artbook V, so I'm going to be giving it away. If you want it, keep checking the newsgroup for a quiz I'll be posting soon (though it will be pretty evil).

Anyway, that's pretty much everything I wanted to say. I can hardly wait until next year! Now I'm off to read the new parts to College Life. ^_^
