Sakamoto Maaya is a very gifted singer, songwriter, and seiyuu. She has released numerous CDs, and has lent her voice to many different anime. Her most famous role is definitely Kanzaki Hitomi, the lead from Tenkuu no Escaflowne and Escaflowe a Girl in Gaea (the movie). As far as I know, this was her first work in anime, and it's really impressive! Her anime credits go on to include Leaf from Record of the Lodoss War TV, Kugayama Natsumi from Mizuiro Jidai, Yamaki Riho from Night Walker, Nai no Card from Cardcaptor Sakura Fuuin Sareta Card (the 2nd movie), and many more.
Her music credits are just as impressive, if not more so. Again, as far as I know, she got her start in Escaflowne, singing the OP theme song, and various image songs. I think this is where her relationship with Kanno Youko must have been formed. From Escaflowne on, Kanno produced, composed, and arranged 90% of Maaya's music. I think they must have become good friends. With Kanno Youko, Maaya has released four full-length albums, and nine CD-Singles. Her latest CD, the mini album Easy Listening, was produced and arranged by hog, but Kanno still composed all the tracks.
Maaya was born on March 31st, 1980 (just a month before me! O.O) in Tokyo. Her blood type is A, and she likes sandwiches. ^^; She was also the Japanese dub voice for many American movies, including Star Wars Episode 1 (Queen Amidala), Romeo and Juliet (Juliet), and Jurassic Park (the litte girl, I think o.o;).
She's my favourite singer ever! *_* I think Kanno Youko put it best when she said Maaya's voice was like an angel (waa~i! Maaya-sama no koe wa tenshi mitai ne!). ^___^ Daisuki na utaite desu!!
